oddly
my name is oddly
it isn’t my first name
it’s a name I found, like an unexpected flower growing along the side of the road
while I use other names in other places, oddly is the name I carry in my heart, the one I come back to as feeling the most natural
once, using a new name gave me a necessary degree of separation. a kind of freedom
permission to explore and express my self, outside of my self
and yet, each iteration simply became a new way to understand me, my voice and my creativity
a way to integrate some part of me that had needed that time, that space and that attention, in order to come out

story, motion, poetry
my art, in every medium, shares certain fixations, things I search for no matter what tools come to hand:
story
motion
poetry
also textures, and also slants of light. also quiet, and also connection
what catches and holds my attention is often the small things, the brief moment of connection in a short conversation, the curving line of thick black ink, the silence as someone puts together their thoughts, the delicate arch of a fern
moments that offer profound openings, connections. revelations
the word here may be ephemera. it may be philosophy
it may be, simply, art

slow, gentle, soft
there is, of course, no such things as mastering a craft
there is only going deeper
further
within
and that is what you will find, here
my art is about looking close, it’s about connecting, it’s about making a study of things
slowly, gently, softly
